Willa Cather foundation works to finish new fundraising project

The Willa Cather Foundation announced a multimillion dollar undertaking yesterday. The foundation is planning on building a National Willa Cather Center in Red Cloud. The 20,000 square foot space will be a public museum, archive, and arts and cultural center. . Documentary filmmaker Ken Burns is the honorary national chair for the fundraising effort. He helped make the video announcement that went live on the website this morning. It will be located next to the Red Cloud Opera House in the "Moon Block" building, which was the backdrop in a many of Willa Cather's works. Willa Cather Foundation board president Tom Gallagher explains more of the plans. Executive Director Leslie Levy says the foundation has already raised 95 percent of the funds, but they $144,000 by June 30 in order to receive a 400 thousand dollar challenge grant offered by the Peter Kiewit Foundation
