United Way annouces new campaign chair, opens Cooling Center during hot days

The United Way of South Central Nebraska announced today that Terry
Anstine, President of Five Points Bank-Hastings, will serve as the Campaign Chair for the 2012-2013 Fundraising Campaign. Tabitha Fox the Executive Director for the United Way of South Central Nebraska says the goal for this year’s campaign has been set at $451,000. This is the highest goal to date for the United Way. The money raised during the campaign will be used to support 44 programs offered by 19 different agencies throughout Adams, Clay, Nuckolls, and Webster counties.

Temperatures soaring this week, with highs in the upper 90’s, with the increase in temperatures Hastings Salvation Army Major Abe Tamayo has opened their Cooling Centers. Tamyo says not only are the cooling centers a great place to cool down; they serve as a great place for fellowship. As long as the heat index is above 90 degrees The Hastings Salvation Army will keep its Cooling Center open from 11 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
