Final debate for Nebraska Republican senate candidates tonight

Posted: 05/01/12 08:00

Tonight is the last GOP Senate debate before the primary election, but not everybody that is running will have his or her say. The debate is being hosted by the Omaha World Herald. KHAS Radio contacted the World Herald as to why Pat Flynn, Spencer Zimmerman, and even Sharyn Elander, were not given the opportunity to participate. In response, Dave Kotok from the World Herald said, “They wanted to focus their debate on those candidates who have a legitimate shot to win. We have noting against Mr. Flynn or his campaign,” Kotok said, “but he fell below the criteria we wanted out of the candidates.” Kotok said they focused their criteria on several different factors, from amount of money raised, advertising dollars spent, and prior offices held, to simply the overall management of their campaign. According to the latest state-wide polls, Jon Bruning continues to be the front runner for the Republican nomination, while Don Stenberg and Deb Fischer trail behind. The debate takes place at 7 p.m. and will be televised live on public television station NET Television.
